Why Social Media is Changing the Marketing Game

Ten years ago seems prehistoric in terms of the internet. One of the LARGEST social media platforms today, Instagram, was created only nine years ago in 2010.  Since then, the user experience and reachability for companies has morphed into a whole other phenomenon. Instagram circa 2010 is NOTHING compared to Instagram 2019.  With over 100 million users on its’ network, Instagram alone has changed the way companies market to their target audience. This doesn’t even include Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Youtube, and a plethora of other social media platforms. Here are a couple reasons why social media is critical to your marketing strategy.

Direct Pathway to Target Audience

Social media gives corporations a direct line of communication between them and the majority of their consumers.  This can be good and bad. On the positive side, corporations can see direct responses to new product launches and feedback in real time.  They can also directly reach out to each individual who reaches out to them to remedy any issues and/or build lasting connections. Conversely, it opens a direct portal for consumers to voice negative publicity and feedback while exposing that information to thousands of people at a time. That information can then be screenshot and shared hundreds of thousands of times within minutes. When done correctly, social media can be a great tool to market to your consumers. It is imperative to learn to properly navigate and mediate social media.

Increase Brand Awareness

With a larger reach than just radio, newspaper, or flyers, social media allows you to share your brand with millions of people in an instant.  Small and large businesses alike can benefit from the increased exposure and visibility. Engaging with clients for just a couple hours a week is proven to dramatically increase visibility and heightens user experience.

Improve Brand Loyalty

Having a platform to announce matters such as company slogans, culture, and community can increase brand loyalty among consumers. If your client base sees that you’re also volunteering within your local community, running charity events, promoting great deals, and/or launching new and innovative products, it increases their likelihood to be a return customer.  People want to buy from companies they like, and the more you share about your positive company culture, the more they are likely to buy from you.

Affordability and Efficiency

As far as advertising does, social media is the best bang for your buck.  Creating and maintaining an account is essentially free and advertisements are pennies on the dollar. It enables your business to increase brand awareness while also advertising to a very targeted consumer base.  This ensures that the money you invest into advertisements have a greater return on investment than blasting advertisements to everyone. It also gives you the ability to reach millions of people at a time versus the hundreds or thousands of people other methods of advertisements can reach.

Competition Awareness

This is a BIG one!  Not only can you reach your target users, but you can also take a direct look at the marketing strategies of your biggest competitors.  You can see exactly how they market their products, what type of engagement they are getting, and what type of feedback they are getting.  While you shouldn’t copy their methods exactly (because it puts you behind in terms of innovation), but you can see what other people are doing and if it’s working for them. It also gives you insight on their market statistics to compare to your own.

Increased Traffic and Improving SEO Ranking

By sharing your content across all forms of social media, it increases visibility and traffic to your website.  In return, that increases sales and exposure. In this day and age, algorithms are constantly changing. They not only take into accountability your webpage, backlinks, and blog posts, but also look across social media platforms to verify your authority.  Increased social media presence shows that you are a subject matter expert and a valid company to suggest to consumers. Any good marketing strategy includes advertisements and an engaging website. Any GREAT marketing strategy includes social media.

All in all, social media is a fantastic and cost-effective way to increase your brand awareness and visibility to your intended client base. When used correctly, it can positively impact and increase traffic to your business. However, when used incorrectly, it can maliciously affect your business and your brand.  Working with the right marketing team is crucial for your business.
